Preventing Identity Fraud on a CRB Check

Over the last two years, the CRB and the Metropolitan Police have been working closely together as part of an initiative named ‘Operation Amberhill’.

The purpose of Operation Amberhill is to infiltrate organised crime networks engaged in the production and supply of counterfeit identity documents. Our combined aim is to ensure that criminals do not obtain and use counterfeit documents to gain employment with vulnerable groups and children.

To date, Operation Amberhill has prevented 81 inappropriate people from working with vulnerable adults and children. We are committed to continuing this vital and important role but, clearly, Registered and Umbrella Bodies have a significant role to play in ensuring that individuals applying for a CRB check do so with authenticated documents.
