In October’s edition of the Personnel Checks Monthly Newsletter, we informed you that Channel Island equivalents to some UK identity documents can now be accepted to verify an applicant’s identity on CRB Check forms.
Our guidance now states that both Isle of Man and Channel Islands driving licences are acceptable Group 1 identity documents and the CRB will treat them as an equivalent to the UK document.
As you will be aware, in section A of the application form, question 22 asks ‘Do you hold a valid UK driving licence?’ We have recently received a number of queries about whether Channel Islands and Isle of Man driving licence information will be accepted in this field.
We can confirm that the CRB will accept application forms where question 22 has been marked ‘Yes’ and question 23 contains information which conforms with any of the following:
- The standard DVLA format – applicable for UK and Guernsey licences
- The 8 digit Jersey licence number
- The 9 digit Isle of Man licence number
In recent editions Personnel Checks, have also provided guidance on how to check the details of a UK driving licence against the full name and date of birth provided by the applicant. The Guernsey driving licence also follows the standard DVLA format and can be used to verify that the applicant’s full name and date of birth have been accurately entered onto the CRB application form.
Please note that this does not apply to the licence numbers on the Isle of Man and Jersey driving licences which are randomly generated and do not contain any references to the individual’s personal details.
