We would like to remind customers of the importance of secure handling and storage of Disclosure information.
The CRB Code of Practice and our Personnel Checks Service Agreement states that Disclosure information should be:
- Kept securely;
- Held in lockable, non-portable, storage containers;
- Passed only to those who are authorised to receive it in the course of their duties; and
- Not kept in any insecure receptacle (e.g. waste bin or confidential waste sack) whilst awaiting destruction.
The retention period is generally for a period of up to six months in order to allow for the consideration and resolution of any disputes or complaints. If, in very exceptional circumstances, it is considered necessary to keep certificate information for longer than six months, the Registered Body (Personnel Checks) should consult the CRB about this; giving full consideration to Data Protection and the Human Rights of the individual concerned before doing so. Throughout this time, the usual conditions regarding the safe storage and strictly controlled access will prevail.
Samples of our policies are available, please don’t hesitate to contact any member of the CRB team on 01254 355688 if you would like us to send them to you.
