After continuous lobbying from the Transport for London, The Mayor of London, the taxi trade and women’s safety campaigners, the government are allowing licensing authorities across the UK to have access to the information disclosed on Enhanced CRB Checks from February 2012.

Taxi Companies
Taxi Companies are eligible to apply for Enhanced CRB Checks for their drivers or private hire drivers, particularly if driving children or vulnerable adults for schools or care homes.
Enhanced CRB Checks
The Enhanced CRB check is the highest level of check available and can only be obtained by a company or organisation on behalf of their employees. It searches for all cautions, warnings, reprimands & convictions as well as any non-convictional information held by the applicant’s local police force. Furthermore, the Enhanced CRB check searches the children and vulnerable adults barred list to establish whether the applicant is barred from working with children or vulnerable people.

Taxi Licensing
When applying for a taxi licence, individuals will need to obtain an Enhanced CRB Checks, which will need to be requested through the licensing authority. When obtaining a Private Hire / Hackney Carriage Licence, the Enhanced CRB check is carried out by the licencing authority on behalf of their employees, as it cannot be requested by an individual person on themselves.
