Changes at the CRB in December 2012

The DBS was established under the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 and will provide a combined service for the Criminal Records and Barring functions. The service and processes currently provided by the CRB will not change as a result of the merger.  We will continue to deliver our services to customers as normal throughout this transition.

The home office however be going through a rebranding exercise. As part of the rebranding they will introduce the new DBS logo, there will be small changes to the application form, the certificates and some of the terminology that we use.

Changes to terminology;

Current Terms 

  • Standard CRB check
  • Enhanced CRB check
  • Enhanced CRB check with Barred List check
  • ISA Adult First
  • Vulnerable adults

New Terms

  • DBS
  • A Standard DBS check
  • An Enhanced DBS check
  • Is now an Enhanced check for regulated activity
  • DBS Adult First
  • Vulnerable groups

Any term referring to ‘CRB’ will now become ‘DBS’ – but the whole process of getting a Criminal Records Check is still exactly the same. Please feel free to call us on 01254 355688 if you have any questions.
