Important Changes to the DBS Checking Process

The first change is a result of the Government’s aim to put individuals in greater control of their own data.

1.       CERTIFICATES:

Currently the DBS issue a copy of an Applicant’s certificate to the client organisation undertaking the DBS check when there is information on the result - this will now change.

The DBS will no longer issue a copy of the Applicant's DBS certificate to the Employer. It will be the Employer’s responsibility to ask to see the results of their Employees DBS Application. Personnel Checks will of course inform our Client organisations that their Employees application is complete but in order to satisfy any recruitment decision making, the Employer will need to ask see their Employee’s certificate.

The DBS want to assess the relevance of any information they may consider to release which will be more applicable to the type of role their Applicants are working in, hence the second change:

2.       APPLICATION FORM: 

Field X61 on the Application form now requires a broader definition of the types of roles that the Client’s workforce is undertaking.
The following phrases will be inserted before the position applied for in field x61:

  'Child Workforce'

Use this for any position that involves working/volunteering with children.

  'Adult Workforce'

Use this for any position that involves working/volunteering with adults.

  'Child and Adult Workforce'

Use this for any position that involves working/volunteering with both children and adults.

  'Other Workforce'

Use this for any position that does not involve working/volunteering with Children or Adults e.g. security guard or Solicitor.
