Policy Statement on Secure Storage, Handling, Use and Retention
All organisations using the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) must comply fully with the DBS Code of Practice. This obliges them to have a written policy on the correct handling and safe keeping of Disclosure information.
Policy Statement on the Recruitment of Ex-Offenders
The DBS requires all organisations carrying out DBS Checks, to treat all applicants who have a criminal record fairly and not to discriminate against the subject of Disclosure on the basis of conviction or other information revealed.

The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act primarily exits to support the rehabilitation into employment of reformed offenders who have stayed on the right side of the law.

Organisations using the DBS checking service must comply with the code of practice. The code is there to ensure organisations are aware of their obligations that the information released will be used fairly.
