SYSTEM UPDATE: Postcode Lookup Integration for DBS Applications

The system that Personnel Checks use to process all levels of Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Checks, as well as Disclosure Scotland Basic Checks, has undergone some improvements. Following feedback from clients, the EmploymentCheck system has had a ‘Postcode Lookup’ function integrated into the online application form, making the process easier and more streamlined.

What is EmploymentCheck?

EmploymentCheck is the online system that Personnel Checks use to process electronic DBS applications. This system allows us to deliver a fast and reliable DBS Service to our clients in a manner compliant with government guidelines. This type of system is known as an ‘e-bulk solution’, using it means we can process thousands of DBS applications in a streamlined way.

What’s Changed?

Following feedback from our client base, EmploymentCheck has undergone some improvement work to make entering addresses onto DBS application forms simpler. Previously applicants have needed to enter their address details manually. A Postcode Lookup integration has now been added.

This means that candidates can simply enter their postcode into the search bar, select their address and this will then be populated into the corresponding address fields on the form. If an invalid or unrecognised postcode is detected the applicant will be notified on the screen and they will be prompted to re-enter their details or enter the address manually.

The integration utilises the Royal Mail Postcode Address File (PAF) which is the UK’s most up-to-date and accurate address database. This database is regularly updated to ensure that the most relevant information can always be provided.

Using the Postcode Lookup will prevent applicants from making errors or duplications when completing their DBS application. Using it will also make entering multiple address far quicker than before.

Applicants do not have to use the Postcode Lookup feature; address can be entered manually by selecting the ‘enter address manually’ button on screen. This is particularly relevant for applicants who have lived abroad or if an address cannot be found on the Postcode Lookup.

If the Postcode Lookup finds an incorrect address, or doesn’t provide full details of your address, amendments can be made by selecting the ‘enter address manually’ button on the screen. This will allow applicants to make any necessary amendments.
