International Women’s Day: Recognising OUR Founder, Michelle Mellor

Today, on International Women's Day, we want to recognize one of our founders, Michelle Mellor. Without her dedication to the business, Personnel Checks wouldn’t be around today.

Michelle began her career journey as a pastry chef, working at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa, where she met her husband Richard. Together, they founded Cummins Mellor Recruitment, recruiting and placing temporary hospitality staff across the UK.

Over the next 33 years, the business grew and expanded into three distinct businesses Personnel Checks, Cummins Mellor, and CJUK. And there are no signs of slowing down! Personnel Checks is going from strength to strength, largely thanks to leadership lessons passed from Michele to our current MD, Jack Mellor.

Known for her hands-on approach and ability to inspire her team, Michelle's leadership style has always been to lead by example and to put people first. This is no doubt down to her motto of ‘Profiting People’. This approach has helped her develop a legacy of strong female leaders across the businesses.

Commenting on her legacy, Katie Mellor, MD of both Cummins Mellor and CJUK, said:

“Michelle is a true role model, especially for the women in our team. She has shown that leadership can involve empathy, collaboration, and flexibility, which is a great legacy to leave with the business. These are all qualities that I try to include in my leadership style and I know inspire the other leaders and managers in our family of businesses.”

Even though Michele has now passed the reins over to Jack and Katie, her legacy is still very much evident in the business. An unflinching advocate for diversity and equality, we couldn’t be prouder to have Michelle as a founder.

Today we celebrate her accomplishments and contributions to women's leadership. Happy International Women's Day, Michelle!
