Personnel Checks welcomes a new Sales Manager to the fold

If you’ve been keeping up with us on social media, you’ll know we’ve had a bit of a recruitment drive recently. One of our key hires is our new Sales Manager, Hayley Kelly.

Hayley joined the team last week and she’s already making an impression. Despite her busy schedule, she found the time to sit down with our copywriter, JP, to chat about her life and experience.

Hi Hayley, it’s great to have you on board, how has your first week been?

Brilliant – whilst I know there is a lot to learn, everyone has been extremely welcoming to ensure I settle in.  There are so many experienced, knowledgeable people in the business that I know I will learn a lot from.  Big thanks to Ayesha, Tom and Maria this week!  It was also extremely satisfying for my competitive nature to be in the winning team at the escape rooms”

That’s lovely to hear, it’s great that you’re settling in well! How did you actually discover Personnel Checks in the first place?

After initial discussions with Amy from Cummins Mellor Recruitment (who did a fantastic job of sharing the vision of PC) I did my research.  I wanted to make sure that the next move I made was the right one.  LinkedIn & the company website gave me a great insight into the company culture & values which were really positive and encouraging.

It’s always nice to hear that our culture shines through online because we’re all proud of where we work! Now that you've spent the week with us, how do you feel about the culture at PC?

“There is a fantastic feel of unity within the business, it doesn’t matter which team someone works on, they are happy to help their colleague.  It was also impressive to speak to many people who have great longevity within the business, alongside those that have left and then returned as this confirms to me that I’m now part of something great and will really value that.”

What are you most excited about in your new role?

“I can see there is a massive opportunity to push the sales team onto their next levels of success, I can’t wait to be a part of achieving great things with them.”

How long have you been working in sales?

“Since I was 18….so instead of divulging my age, I will let you try and work that one out for yourself!”

It can’t be that long then! But in all seriousness, you do have a clear wealth of experience. What is it you love about Sales?

“You get to meet some of the most passionate, hardest working people in sales, these people always want to drive and motivate others around them and share their success stories for others to learn from.”

I think it's fair to say that people tend to stereotype salespeople. What’s the biggest misconception you think people have?

“I think people sometimes assume that all salespeople are the same, think Wolf of Wall Street or Boiler Room! We’re not all about the hard sell!”

What’s one thing you wish you’d known before you started working in sales?

“To always ensure you have a work-life balance, I’ve worked for several companies where that wasn’t the case, where being stopped from going home until the floor hit target was the daily norm, having to do unpaid overtime over the weekend etc.”

Well, I can safely say, we’re nothing like that here! And I know you’re very busy so I just have one more question for you.

What’s one mistake you made early in your career that you learned something from?

“In my early days, I used to be too shy to ask for help or question those around me.  I think I was embarrassed and thought of asking for help as a weakness, that is very different now!”

I think that’s a common mistake. Too often do people think that asking for help is a bad thing but like our MD, Jack, always says to our apprentices “There are no stupid questions”.

Thanks very much for your time Hayley and best of luck in your new role!
