More Time to Join the Update Service

The Disclosure and Barring Service have today revealed that the length of time applicants have to sign up to the Update Service has been extended from 14 to 19 days.

The change comes as a result of feedback from some applicants and organisations who stated that they would have liked to use the Update Service but missed the opportunity to join as they waited for their certificate to arrive rather than signing up with their application reference number.

The DBS have listened to the feedback received and made changes to their system to extend this window to 19 calendar days from the date of issue which is printed on the certificate.

The Update Service was introduced to allow portability of DBS Checks.

Applicants are able to sign up to the Service for an annual fee of £13 and employers can log on confirm if anything has changed on the applicants' record since their last certificate. If something has changed on the applicants criminal record, a new application will need to be carried out.
