The CRB merged with the ISA in December 2012 and have now become the DBS which stands for the Disclosure and Barring Service. This service is a public service available to all sectors for employers and contractors to make recruitment decisions based on what the certificate presents and the main aim is to safeguard society.
The Disclosure and Barring Service is an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Home office. The organisation helps employers make safer recruitment decisions and prevents unsuitable people from working with vulnerable groups by processing criminal record checks. This allows current and potential employers to check if an applicant has a criminal record which will impact on them carrying out a specific role.
